Homerun Single Picture Video

Homerun Static Picture and Text

Announcer:
And we are back at the beautiful Hummer Sports Complex in Topeka, Kansas. It’s the top of the 5th with Emporia Energy trailing by one run in this first round ASA C State softball tournament. The bases are empty and no outs with #15, Kate Decker coming up to the plate. She is 1 for two with a walk and a single this evening.

Kate is a multi sport athlete, participating in volleyball, soccer, softball, and dance. Before the game we had a chance to talk with Miss Decker about her activities.

Let’s listen now to a portion of that interview.

Interviewer:
I understand that you have a tough decision to make next year in high school sports.

Kate:
Yes I do, soccer and softball are my two main sports, yet in high school they are in the same season, so I am going to have to decide which sport to play

Interviewer:
So will this be the last we see of you on the softball field?

Kate:
My plan in high school is to play soccer, but hopefully in the summer I will be playing softball.

Interviewer:
Is there anything you have not accomplished in softball that you would have liked?

Kate:
As a team I think we would all like to win state, and we are going to try for that, but personally I would just like to get a home run. It’s always been my goal since I was young.

Interviewer:
Thanks for spending some time with us today Kate, and good luck in this weekend’s tournament.

Announcer:
So as Decker steps to the plate, let’s see if she can help her team accomplish some of those goals.

And here is the first pitch taken for a ball.

She backs out of the box, takes the signal from her coach, and is back in ready to give it a go.

Wow, a big swing on that one, Looks like she is swinging for the fences. Strike one.

She steps back out with a big smile on her face. Looks like the coach is just reminding her to settle down and relax.

Here is the next pitch….and the swing….it’s a deep ball  to right center…this ball could be gone!

It’s over the center fielder’s head and drops short of the fence. Decker is around second on the way to third. It doesn’t look like she has a triple in mind. It’s going to be all or nothing! The coach is waving her on!

The ball is to the relay as she turns to throw home. It looks on target and there is going to be a play at the plate!

Decker hits the dirt in a slide! The catcher puts the tag down. But it is too late! SAFE! It’s an inside the park home run!
